Meet Tonya
Building More Than a Community
Tonya’s vision behind Cherry Creek
- Tonya believes in community. As a longtime Elkhart County resident, she is deeply invested in the community she calls home. Cherry Creek is her opportunity to bring something special to the community.
- Tonya believes better living is connected living. She envisions a community for every stage of life — where generations live alongside one another, wellness is woven into everyday life, and people feel connected to their neighbors and the world around them.
Tonya Detweiler believes where we live can make a meaningful difference in how we live.
Raised in Newton, Kansas, Tonya has fond memories of spending countless hours on her grandparents’ farm—an early experience of the connection between home, community and the people around us.
Today, Tonya serves as CEO of Blue Diamond Communities and Cherry Creek. Her career has spanned community development, senior living, higher education and philanthropy, including previous leadership roles as CEO of The Green House Village of Goshen and Vice President of Advancement at Hesston College.
That combination of experiences helped shape the vision for Cherry Creek: an intergenerational community intentionally designed around how people want to live. Homes and businesses, trails and green spaces, restaurants and gathering places, wellness and recreation are brought together to make everyday life more connected and convenient.
For Tonya, development is about more than building homes. It’s about creating a community where people have more time for what matters, opportunities to connect with one another, and a place that can continue to meet their needs through different stages of life.
